A Dedication from the Heart
On October 11, 2025, we celebrated a milestone in the history of the Nasonville Valley Railroad with the official opening of the Mountain Division. As part of the ceremony and proclamation, I dedicated two beloved structures to the two people without whom this railroad would never have existed—my parents.
The original trestle is now officially named the “Genaro Trestle” in honor of my father, and the covered bridge proudly bears the name “Shirley” in honor of my mother. My father and I built the original 1,750-foot main line together in just two summers, including the trestle, which we completed in an incredible five days. Meanwhile, my mother kept us fueled with endless hot dogs and lemonade and even began painting the trestle herself before we upgraded to a sprayer.
Today, the railroad stretches 3,443 feet, a far cry from those early days. But its foundation isn’t just made of wood, rail, and ballast—it’s built on my parents’ love, support, and encouragement. These dedications are not only fitting and right but a small token of my deep gratitude for the gift of my parents. Their hands and hearts are in every tie, every trestle, and every memory along the line.
